A Lot of Information
This book is an excellent reference, refresher and beginners guide to Access 2007. If you're clever it can be adapted to other Access versions as well. It is full of short easy to do exercises and explanations. I highly recommend it.

Step by Step Works! Follow the steps to good work!
Step by Step describes the Access program to a T.Following brain surgery and a major stroke, I neededsomething simple and very clear as my mind wasvery handicapped and relearning was an everyday thingfor me in everything I did. Step by Step helped me allthe way as I used it in preparing a library record formy thousands of books which I have donated for aseniors library in our small town. Follow the stepsfor success!

Practice Files Are Not Available
I purchased this book thinking that I would be able to download the Companion Files, which contain the Practice Files. I followed the instructions in the book for downloading the Practice Files. There was no problem finding and downloading the Companion Files. However, the Practice Files are not compatible with the exercises in the book, even though the folder I downloaded was labeled Companion Files for Office Access 2007 Step by Step. I returned the book and got a full refund from Amazon.com, but I wasted a lot of time. Without the correct practice files, it is impossible to get your money's worth from the book.

Access with ease
This Step by Step book is an easy read. The hands on exercises were clear to understand and made learning the program fairly easy. I didn't really see much information on it prior to ordering, but figured the name said it all. I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with a CD to download the exercises. I received my order in a very timely manner and it was in great condition.

Microsoft Office Access 2007 Step by Step
This book was purchased for a course that my son was taking at college. It was delivered promptly and was in excellent shape. He found it very useful in his course that he was taking at the time. He still uses it for reference.

Step by Step Products
I have used SBS products for over 20 years - both as a professor and a user. This is the lightest, least comprehensive guide I have used. Several year ago, I used the Access SBS as a text in a college class. It worked well - with additional instruction, of course. This text is overly simple in places, and in other areas, assumes previous knowledge and skill.I will use this somewhat, but only in conjunction with another book. I would NOT use this as a text.

A Solid Attempt that gets "most" of the way there...
This Step-by-Step guide sets itself a pretty daunting task - to reduce something with the complexity of Microsoft Access 2007 and provide a practical, hands-on and informative introduction for a beginner. Under the circumstances it gets most of this right, with a few frustrations along the way. In 10 well-sized chapters Joan Lambert covers most of the basics that an Access novice will need to be able to get a good understanding of this product, doing so with plenty of examples that are always pretty clear. To put that into context, I've used it as a primer for Access 2013 and managed just fine, largely due to the clarity of examples given. However, there are a few issues, chief of these being related to the otherwise excellent examples. The tutorials embedded in this book are of the "go-here-and-click-this" variety. If you do decide to work your way through the book, you will find yourself lapsing into a robotic execution of these steps, unable to appreciate what is happening because of the complete lack of useful descriptions as to why a particular click is useful, or what the options are. This is a hard challenge to make of the book, because, of course, it's intended as an introduction to the beginner, but even with the material presented, there is a complete and utter lack of *why* being explained. The author will tell you that Access has a feature, then guide you through a point-and-click demonstration that you can follow, but in almost every case fails to provide the context to help you adapt or extend what is provided. If you're familiar with databases and just need a primer for Access 2007, this should not be a hardship, but there is the risk that someone looking for a good introduction will come away wishing for more.Positives:-1. Nice style, well written, with logically sequenced chapters and good selection of content2. Functional examples [I found just one error]3. A few useful tips and insights to some of the less obvious aspects of AccessNegatives:-1. Very poor explanatory notes covering the examples, to the point that you may be inclined to try each experiment multiple times, exploring different options for yourself, hoping for the best...2. For a beginner's guide, a couple of missing items for me would include, for example, the value of "backing up" data. Yes, this is beyond the scope of "Access basics", but as a beginner's guide this should hopefully think about getting the basics right, and that was missing.3. Pointers to extensions - it would have been nice, in places where additional options and capavbilities existed, to have pointed them out rather than simply ignoring them completely... For example, in a section concerning queries, the author mentions that it is possible with Access to write them directly using the Access version of SQL - Structured Query Language. This is one of the very few examples of the author pointing out extensions for the reader to research should they want to.Sum-up: a very competent "basics" book, that could have earned 4 Stars if it had come with better and more descriptive explanations of the examples, and 5 Stars if it had put a little more effort into pointing out "further reading" areas to help the reader be aware that Access does in fact have far more capability than even a book as thorough as this could hope to cover. ~300 pages of good, solid introduction.

Helped me get the job done
I purchased this book to help me get to grips with Access. I wanted to use it to collect and analyse daily workload data from my team. The CD is useful to access the sample and demonstration documents as you work through the book. It is also well structured and clearly laid out so you can work through it step by step, or dip into it if you want to know how to do splecific things. All in all I would recommend it to someone with a working knowledge of Office programmes who needs to develop their knowledge of Access. It will certainly help if you have a task to complete

ok if your new to access
I bought this hoping to use it just as a reference guide to syntax but it really is a brand new to access users book only. Nice clear pages and demos that work on the built in demo tables in access but if you are happy doing basic queries then this book isn't for you as your knowledge will probably exceed the book very shortly
